You may have noticed that I recently changed my name on my website from Courtney to Jennifer. Here is a little bit about why I made the change. When I first started this blog, I decided to use a pseudonym. I often fell back on the concern for my professional image if I were to write about an opinion that is not widely held within my field. While I recognize that there is some validity to that argument (so I have chosen to leave off my last name for now), it does not sufficiently justify the feeling of needing to hide what I truly think behind a pseudonym. Previously, I felt that others would not value my opinions if I voiced what I thought, or I assumed our relationships would be tarnished if they knew what was on my mind. I believe we all need to listen to each other more. We can learn so much if we listen to the opinions of others, even if we strongly disagree with them. If I truly believe this, I should be willing to share my own thoughts. It is not healthy to be afraid to speak for fear of how others will react. And so I am now using my real name. Thanks for reading!
